What is synchronicity?

Most people have experienced synchronicity without even knowing it. Have you ever danced to a DJ’s mix where your movements flowed so “in sync” with the changes of beats and flickering of intelligent lighting, it seemed like it was all planned perfectly, even though you never heard the mix before? If you have, you’ve experienced synchronicity!

The concept of synchronicity is as deep as its’ effects are cool. Synchronicity or “meaningful coincidences,” was first proposed by psychologist Carl Jung and can be described as follows: if you have two unrelated events occurring at separate times or places, and you observe a connection between these events which has no rational explanation, that is synchronicity.

Synchronicity is also an important part of DJing: mixing two records recorded in different times and places to transform what appears to be random combinations of sound into body-rockin’, bass-bin-cockin’ (UH!) beats. Spin that synchronicity sickly brotha, YA!

You may think synchronicity is something new, but it’s not. It’s always been there, brainwave pulsating in the background, hardwired in our minds, and the very fabric of the universe. You just may not have noticed it…until now.
